The Sandgrain -
A Folly at the Hoek van Holland Beach

The Sandgrain (de Zandkorrel) is a folly; a non-functional, spacial object.
Studying the space, materials and weather of Hoek van Holland beach was a big part of shaping the folly. The design is based on the shape of a sandgrain when you study it under a microscope.
The construction is built to be secure with high speed of wind and the folly is designed to be easy to construct and de-construct as the beach is a place where all objects are only temporary there.
In collaboration with Elfi van der Steen, Rik van Mierlo, Rozemarijn Kon en Ersem Ercil.
For a spacial experience, watch the film below.
